Friday, September 1, 2017 -ANIMAS RIVER, MINNIE GULCH, PLACE,/PICAYUNE

Today will be my last blog from Silverton for awhile.  Jim wants to head north and see Yellowstone this year.  I am very sad about leaving so early.  For our last day, we headed out with Bill & Cindy and Brian & Malia.

I can't leave without one last drive along my favorite Animas River:

We next headed to Minnie where we have spotted moose several times
this year in hopes of seeing one today:
Those Aspens are trying to give me a show before I leave:
Up close of the old boarding house for the Kittimac Mine:
At the top of the Kittimac:
Jingles running up the stream to the waterfall
(almost as good as snow):
Left to right are Jim, Cindy, & Brian:
Just moments before we turned into today's lunch spot, a
doe & baby were watching the road; you can see her "behind" as she turned
to run and the babe to her right:
Jim, Brian, Malia, Bill, & Cindy:
Leaving Minnie, we (as the lead car) did see two moose,
but they were too fast - no picture & nobody else got to see!

Next, we headed towards Animas Forks Ghost Town where
the other two Jeeps stopped to explore.
They then met up with us at the old Frisco Mill.
Here they come on their rockiest road yet.
(That's the old Harvester vehicle up above; close-up
pictures on an earlier blog):

One last marmot sighting for this year:
Later, Bill & Cindy went out in the evening to look for moose
and were successful.  We stayed home to start putting things away
for tomorrow's departure.
