Tuesday, August 1, 2017 - A RIDE WITH LYNN & MICHAEL

My cousin, Lynn, who I haven't seen in about a 100 years and her fiance, Michael were vacationing in Durango and came up to spend the day with us.  We tried to give them a sampling of several different trails.

First stop was the reflection pond at Gray Copper Gulch:
Next, we followed Corkscrew Trail up to the top of one of the Red Mountains.
Then, we headed to the top of SunnySide Saddle, because where else can you find snow in August?  A snowball may have been involved in this picture:

Back out on the trail, past Hurricane and California Passes.
Lake Como:
 Frisco Mill:

The guys found an old vehicle to "fix-up"

Down the road and into Animas Forks, the popular Ghost Town.
In it's hay day back in the 1800s, there were many houses, a post office, store, bars, a hotel, and even a jail.  The town eventually reached a population of 1,500.  The town even had telephone lines.  Otto Mears extended the rail-line into the area.  But, winters were harsh and many people left during those months.  Now it is just a ghost town with less than twenty original structures (that are being restored) and debris and signs of the mills that operated.

Then it was time to head to town for some lunch.

A quick stop at Eureka to walk into the canyon:

Hope it was a good sampling of trails for Lynn & Michael.
They treated us to lunch at Handlebars.  They did some shopping in town and then headed back to Durango.  Sure enjoyed their visit!
