Wednesday, July 19, 2017 - DEER PARK

We took a late morning run up Kendall Mountain to Deer Park.  James & Wendy with dog, Abby joined us.  Kendall is the mountain we look at every time we look thru our windshield in the RV.  We usually go up to the top and visit the Titusville Mine and the Antenna that overlook the town.  Today, we opted for a quieter trip.  The Deer Park trail cuts off about half way up and climbs up thru a forest, eventually opening up to a meadow, elevation a little over 11,000 feet.

Going up - we can see the narrow gauge coming into Silverton:

 Lots of small waterfalls along the way:

Abby & Jingles checking out the terrain.
They are actually on a ledge of a drop-off here:

No snow, but running thru wildflowers almost as good:
 And then, Jingles discovered the skeleton of a large animal;
probably a deer or elk:

 I would like to tell you that she is enjoying the run here:
 But she is trying to keep Abby from getting the nice
vertebrae she has in her mouth (click to enlarge):

 Columbine - State Flower:
Almost to the bottom of the trail, we can see the town.
Note the two colors of the Animas River where Cement Creek runs into it:

We were joined by Charles & Jane and Dale & Betty later in the afternoon.
They had gone to the top first.  He shared these drone shots:

 There we are:
